Nick Broomfield’s documentary is an in-depth look at the relationship between Leonard Cohen and his muse, Norwegian Marianne Ihlen. When they met on the then unspoiled Greek Island of Hydra in 1960, Marianne was living in a bohemian community of artists with her son and husband, the writer Axel Jensen. Though her on-off relationship with Cohen survived for only a decade, their lives remained distantly linked, and the songs Marianne inspired are among Cohen’s best-known.
