When Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was first shown in 1969 one audience member wrote:
“Just as the final frame caught them, there was a dead silence. Then the clapping began. By the time the screen had turned to sepia the audience was on its feet, applauding loudly through tears. It was the first time I had experienced such an outpouring at the end of a film.
Being part of that cinema audience has stayed with me as a huge, powerful and magical moment.
The film was, and remains, faultless and holds up as fresh today as it did forty five years ago. It is witty, sharp, a great story and the camera doesn’t miss a trick.
