Frederic, an apprentice pirate bound by an inconveniently strong sense of duty, wishes to give up piracy on his 21st birthday, falls in love with the daughter of the very model of a modern Major-General, and after various complications, involving leap years, mistaken identities, policemen, and many improbabilities, all ends happily.
