Imagine you are sitting at work and an email comes into your inbox: “You have been selected to take part in a team- building exercise in the Lake District in November …” How might you react? “Oh bloody hell” or “what a lovely opportunity to get to know my colleagues”.
The above would be the prelude to what takes place in “Sheila’s Island”. 4 women are put in a team and they somehow end up on an island in the middle of Derwent Water. The play shows us how these characters react to this less than ideal situation and what transpires is both funny and moving. Tim Firth (author of “Calendar Girls”, “Kinky Boots”, “Our House”) gives us a script full of dark humour and well-observed insights into how we all might react to impending disaster.
Warning: while there are a lot of laugh out loud moments, part of the play does involve the difficult subject of suicide.
This amateur production of ‘Sheila’s Island’ is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk
