The Acoustic Ballroom has been at the heart of the local music scene for nearly two decades! Since our legendary open mic night started in November 2005, we’ve hosted hundreds of acts—from first-time performers to seasoned professionals. The formula has always been simple: no amplification, no acts booked in advance. Whoever turns up gets a slot of two songs to perform whatever they want. All styles are welcome, with a typical night ranging from folk and jazz, to blues, rock, poetry and original singer-songwriter material.
The Acoustic Ballroom is proud to present a selection of some of the finest artists to grace the stage over the years for our special 20th anniversary concert. Acts confirmed so far include:
Jackie Oates: Our headliner Jackie Oates is one of the country’s best-loved folk performers, consistently earning glowing reviews for her live concerts and beautiful solo albums. We’ve been incredibly lucky to have Jackie as a regular performer and are thrilled to welcome her back to the Ballroom as the headline act for our 20th anniversary concert.
Cold Harbour: We first heard Cold Harbour’s beautiful country and Americana songs during our online lockdown sessions. Nadine and Mark’s vocal harmonies were a treat, and now, with the addition of their daughter Trinity, their three-part harmonies are absolutely sublime.
Band of Hope: We couldn’t celebrate the 20th anniversary without Band of Hope, a band that met right here at the Acoustic Ballroom. They play and sing Tom Crook’s beautiful songs on guitar, bass, keys, drums, pedal steel guitar, and fiddle/mandolin.
Dave King: It’s only Dave King! We never know what to expect from this Ballroom legend. A singer-songwriter of both silly and serious songs, he’ll make you laugh one minute and break your heart the next. We’re crossing our fingers for his infamous song ‘Chuck Norris’ Beard’ but with Dave, anything could happen…
