After a widower (james Cosmo) begins a new romantic relationship with Annie (Brid Brennan), his relationship with his daughter (Catherine Walker) deteriorates. Shot on the same island (Achill), and at much the same time, as The Banshees of Inisherin, The Guardian’s Phuong Le says: “What begins as a light-hearted autumnal romance gradually evolves into a thorny study of familial grievances… Beautifully nuanced performances underpin an interesting drama that evolves from late-life romance into study of family trauma across generations”.

Independent.ie’s Paul Whitington adds: “Nicely written, beautifully photographed, My Sailor, My Love is clear-eyed at all times, scrupulously unsentimental.”

Donald Clarke of The Irish Times says: “Sharp writing, subtle acting and a winning Irish setting… Winner of best Irish film from Dublin Film Critics’ Circle at [the] Dublin International Film Festival, My Sailor, My Love will play to any nation where humans struggle to make themselves understood.”
