Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school

Review:  “Inside Out,” a comedy-adventure set inside the mind of an 11-year old girl, is the kind of classic that lingers in the mind after you’ve seen it, sparking personal associations. Tipped for great success it could shake American studio animation out of the doldrums it’s been mired in for years. It avoids a lot of the cliched visuals and storytelling beats that make even the best Pixar movies, and a lot of movies by Pixar’s competitors, feel too familiar. The best parts of it feel truly new, even as they channel previous animated classics and explore situations and feelings that everyone has experienced to some degree.
